Painting: The Third Dimension

This course will encourage you to be your creative self as you explore working with an interesting new and different medium. Learn how to mix and apply a plaster compound on stretched canvas and then, through the use of tools such as a palette knife, create a highly textured three-dimensional piece of art. You will then learn how to mix and apply acrylic paint including iridescent colours to enhance your artwork. Teaching methodology will include demonstrations, critiques and individual attention. Documenting Historic Sites in Northern Ontario with David Lewis

The course begins with a historical look at photographic documentary traditions in North America. During the course of the week the class will be photographing the unique architecture and ruins of the silver mining industry and saw mills of Northern Ontario. Participants will visit the famed Silver Trail in Cobalt. David is also making arrangements to visit other historic sites in the area. The class will learn new technical and visual skills essential to documenting our past. Students may work with film or digitally. Participants are encouraged to bring tripods and filters for this workshop. The home base for the workshop will be North Bay, with a two evening stay at a motel near Cobalt. Suitable clothing and proper footwear is a must for this workshop. Instructor: David Lewis

Advanced Glazing and Decorating Techniques

This intensive five-day course will explore applied decorating and glazing techniques. Each participant must bring at least 10 bisque-fired pieces to be fired at C/6 oxidation. This course will focus on glaze mixing, preparation, application, as well as decoration techniques that include underglaze, onglaze and over glaze. Special attention will be given to design and application techniques using photo stencil, spraying, airbrushing, sgraffito, imprints, drawing, and painting to achieve award-winning results.
