Continue your education without the need for regularly scheduled lectures.
The online environment allows you to set the pace of your learning while adhereing to the course structure and deadlines. Instructors are available via virtual communication tools such as electronic mail, course chats and discussion boards.
Online students need to be self-motivated and able to work independently.
To take an online course students must have access to a personal computer with a modem and an Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Courses
Every semester Canadore College publishes a selection of OntarioLearn courses in our course calendar. These courses are identified by the subtitle: Delivery: Online.
A complete list of OntarioLearn courses can be viewed at www.ontariolearn.com. All OntarioLearn courses are available through Canadore College. If you wish to take a course that is not listed in our calendar please contact the OntarioLearn coordinator at ontariolearn@canadorec.on.ca.
Please note that it the students' responsibility to contact the Ontario Learn coordinator at least two weeks prior to the date you wish to write. The majority of exams are to be completed by the course end date. You should confirm with your instructor the exam deadline. All exams are closed book exams unless otherwise specified by the instructor. Students must bring some form of photo-identification (driver's license is preferable).
Course Access You will not be able to access your course until the course start date.
To access your course you will be required to enter a "User/Login ID" and a "Password". You may also be required to download and install (free) software before you can login to your course - download details are set out below.
Password A generic password is assigned to each student. Your password is "newone". Please change this password once you enter your course.
Course Platform and Download OntarioLearn and Canadore College are host to a variety of course platforms. Some platforms require a free download available at www.ontariolearn.com. Courses appear differently depending on the platform on which they are offered.
If you plan to complete your course on your workplace computer, please check with your IT department as some companies will have a firewall in place to prevent downloads.
