Are you interested in assisting youth and/or adults in crisis? Are you intrigued by law, criminology, sociology and psychology? Our Community and Justice Services program presents students with a unique and comprehensive two-year program. The multi-disciplinary approach offers you a balanced curriculum of theory and applied practices necessary in preparing students for diversified and challenging employment options. Our program not only provides you with entry level positions in the field of Youth Justice, Adult Corrections and Restorative Justice but also prepares our graduates for entry-level management positions.

Employment in this field requires good communication skills, excellent interpersonal dynamics and compassion in assisting people in crisis. Our program continues to impress the field with competent and professional recruits for the provincial, federal and private sectors.

Admission Requirements


Ontario Secondary School Diploma at or above the general level or its equivalent. Grade 12 English or equivalent is required.

Recommended courses:
Grade 12 Mathematics.

Mature Students:
Applicants aged 19 or over without the OSSD will be considered on the basis of their results on the College’s Mature Student Test.

Graduates of the new Ontario Secondary School Curriculum:
Ontario Secondary School Diploma with courses from the College (C), University (U), University/College (M), or Open (O) preparation levels. Required courses: Grade 12 Compulsory English (ENG 4C or ENG 4U).

 
Other Requirements


A completed Canadore College Health Centre form including medical history, immunization record, Hepatitis B vaccination, and a two-step Tuberculosis (TB) test is required. Please see the online student registration handbook for more information.

FIELD PLACEMENT
Students are required to complete a 240-hour field placement component (six-weeks) related to the field of Community and Justice Services. The program coordinator will secure and supervise placements for students based on interest and career choice. Students can express interest in a placement anywhere in Canada.
 
CRIMINAL JUSTICE DEGREE COMPLETION AGREEMENT!
Canadore College and Nipissing University have a Criminal Justice Degree Completion Agreement which provides graduates of Canadore’s Community and Justice Services program with an avenue for continuing their education leading to a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Criminal Justice degree at Nipissing University. Community and Justice Services graduates with a 3.5 GPA can apply to the university and, if accepted, can complete this four-year program in 2.5 years.
