Academic upgrading and career preparation programs are tuition-free to residents of Ontario who are at least 19 years of age. Financial support for childcare and transportation is available to qualified applicants.
Our upgrading programs provide you with opportunities to prepare for college, apprenticeship, and employment, whether or not you have a high school diploma. The programs have continuous intake, and you can attend either full-time or part-time. After completing the program assessments, you are provided with an individualized training plan based on your educational and/or employment goals.
You will progress toward your goals in a self-directed, individualized setting using a variety of print-based, audio-visual, and computer-mediated educational resources. The staff is a team comprised of both certified teachers with extensive teaching and academic advising backgrounds, and support staff who are skilled and experienced in working with adult learners.
Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS)
This program provides upgrading in communications, numeracy, introductory computer applications, and self-management. LBS also offers training in workplace Essential Skills. Upgrading through the LBS Program allows learners to improve prospects for employment, to foster independence, and to prepare for further training. Many students who successfully complete the LBS Program proceed directly into the ACE Program.
Academic and Career Entrance Program (ACE)
This program stream provides learners with opportunities to upgrade their academic skills to prepare for further education. Depending upon your goal and background, your studies may include mathematics, English, biology, chemistry, physics, and introductory computer applications. Successful completion of the ACE Program provides a grade 12 equivalence that is recognized for admission to college postsecondary programs and apprenticeship training in Ontario.
Together, the Literacy and Basic Skills Program and the Academic and Career Entrance Program can help you assess your skills, clarify your goals, and prepare you for employment or further education.
