Imagine yourself planning special events, managing sport and recreation facilities, organizing activities for seniors, leading youth activities, supervising outdoor programs, working at a resort or on a cruise ship…these are a few of the many job opportunities that await you as a Canadore College Recreation graduate. Recreation professionals plan and administer recreation and leisure service programs and facilities for people of all ages and interests. Today, more than ever, people are seeking to improve their quality of life through enjoyable recreation and leisure pursuits. Canadore’s Recreation program places a major emphasis on learning by doing. Students organize and lead a variety of community events, participate in a number of workshops, and obtain certification in career-related areas. Work placement is another major component of the program. Under the guidance and supervision of recreation professionals, students complete 400 hours of work placement, including a seven-week block placement in the final semester. | Admission Requirements Ontario Secondary School Diploma at or above the general level or its equivalent. Grade 12 English or equivalent is required. Mature Students: Applicants aged 19 or over without OSSD will be considered on the basis of their results on the College’s Mature Students Test. Graduates of the new Ontario Secondary School Curriculum: Ontario Secondary School Diploma with courses from the College (C), University (U), University/College (M) or Open (O) preparation levels. ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATION OPPORTUNITIES |
Students have opportunities to acquire further certification in a number of areas including: fitness, gymnastics coach, aquatics, canoeing, wall climbing, wilderness first aid, High Five, Sport Taping and Wrapping, Smart Serve, Inclusive Recreation Coach, WHMIS, NCCP, GPS, etc. Students complete these certifications at their own expense and generally outside of scheduled class time. | | | - Energetic and enthusiastic

| | The program curriculum is designed to offer students the opportunity to obtain two diplomas in three years. Graduates are eligible to transfer directly into Canadore’s Recreation Therapy program or Canadore’s Sport Conditioning program. These transfer options enable students to obtain a second diploma within a year. Articulation Option Graduates also receive advanced standing at several universities and may be able to complete a degree within a year and a half after graduating from Canadore. Excellent program transfer agreements exist with these universities: - Brock University

If you have a current college diploma or university degree, you may be eligible to obtain a Recreation and Leisure Services Ontario Diploma in one year. When applying through OCAS, please request entry into Semester 3 of the program of your choice. WORK PLACEMENT & INTERNSHIP | Students perform 400 hours of work placement, including a seven-week block placement at the end of the last semester. Recreation professionals work closely with program faculty to ensure quality placement experiences. Students must be prepared to travel to and from placements at their own expense. |
