Ecotourism
Learn practical skills in class and in the beautiful Northern Ontario landscape. This program will give you the skills you need to work in the ever-expanding ecotourism industry. You will obtain knowledge and skill-sets required to work in outdoor-based tourism organizations or to operate your own unique business. Develop leadership skills while engaging in a number of activities including canoeing, hiking, snowshoeing, and map and compass. Fun and informative field trips will take you to ecology centres, outdoor adventure organizations and natural attractions in the area. Program highlights include camping skills, nature identification, earth science, native customs and traditions, search and rescue techniques and outdoor games. You can also obtain additional certification including a nationally-recognized GPS training course.
Ecotourism graduates are eligible to complete any of these diploma programs: Recreation and Leisure Services, Recreation Therapy and Strength and Sport Conditioning.
“The Ecotourism program is experiential - they live it, they see it, they experience it, they touch it. As advisors and participants in the training, we use the five E’s to define the program. It is the hallmark of what the program does: Educational - Ecological - Experiential - Entertaining - Exciting.”
Bill Steer, Manager of Education, Canadian Ecology Centre
