The Quality Learning, Teaching and Innovation (QLTI) department monitors the execution of many of the quality assurance processes, including new program development, program review, curriculum review and revision, and general education course review. The QLTI department provides leadership to help build our online learning community as well as participate in the management of academic projects and new College initiatives. iLearn, Canadore’s online learning management system, provides the college with an online community and allows faculty to expand their classroom experience beyond the walls of the institution.
The Quality Learning, Teaching and Innovation (QLTI) department is also responsible for providing support in learning and teaching practices, educational technologies support and applied research. The department provides workshops, training and information sessions to support the delivery and development of curriculum. QLTI also tracks faculty and staff professional development participation in the Facilitating Learning in Higher Education (FLHE) certificate and other non-credit academic professional development activities. The department coordinates new faculty orientation each semester and offers PD opportunities during the fall and winter reading weeks and in the May-June period.
Facilitating Learning in Higher Education (FLH)
The Facilitating Learning in Higher Education certificate program provides Professors with the opportunity to develop and enhance their teaching practice in a peer-led, practice based environment. Professors examine adult learning theories and curriculum development principles and apply these to design, deliver and evaluate learning experiences leading to student engagement and success. Professors assess individual and group learning needs and plan and implement learning opportunities to meet the needs, interests and abilities of diverse learners in post-secondary learning environments. Professors experience and reflect on a variety of traditional and technology-based teaching strategies in face-to-face, blended and online learning environments. Professors explore in depth an area of interest and apply this to their own teaching practice.
FLH courses/modules are available to faculty during routinely scheduled PD sessions.
Program quality assurance is an institutional concern and priority. Canadore College’s quality assurance processes are defined by the elements noted in the College’s PQA Policy. Each of these internal elements consists of a series of policies, processes, and monitoring activities designed to ensure compliance with the provincial audit requirements, while providing the best possible experience for students and partners.
