Mechanical Technician – Welder Fitter

42 weeks Ontario College Diploma

Overview

Learn the specialized skills of the trade on industry-standard machines in our 4,700 sq. ft. lab. You will learn multiple welding processes at one of the 33 individual welding stations, including shield metal arc welding (SMAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), gas metal arc and gas tungsten arc welding, FUSION welding, brazing, and cutting techniques. Skills learned are highly transferable and versatile as welding is used in several trades including electrical, and automotive. Graduates will have completed all position welding training and possible Canadian Welding Bureau Certification.

Flexible Exit Option – receive a Welder-Fitter Mechanical Techniques Ontario College Certificate after 23 weeks.

NOTE: Successful completion is equivalent to Level 1 Apprenticeship in-class portion.

OSSD or equivalent, ENG4C or ENG4U

If English is not your first language you must either provide proof of English competency or take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). You must have a minimum overall band score of 5.5 on IELTS, or a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper based) or 213 (computer scored) or 80 IBT (internet based) to be admitted to a postsecondary program at the college. SPP in India requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0

Ontario College Diploma

Student have the option to complete their practical test with the Canadian Welding Bureau to obtain their welding tickets.

Learning outcomes represent culminating demonstrations of learning and achievement. In addition, learning outcomes are interrelated and cannot be viewed in isolation of one another. As such, they should be viewed as a comprehensive whole. They describe performances that demonstrate that significant integrated learning by graduates of the program has been achieved.
